Meteora Monasteries from Pieria

The highlight of any stay in Greece is a visit to the METEORA Monasteries. From your hotel, the journey takes you south along the coast of the Olympic Riviera, with views of MOUNTAIN OLYMP. After a short coffee break, the journey continues past farms, fields, and plantations, across rivers and through valleys. Passing the provincial capital of LARISA, you will travel through the vast, fertile Thessalian plain to the small town of KALAMBAKA, surrounded by the PINDOS MOUNTAIN.  You will reach your destination, the breathtaking, floating METEORA Monasteries. The grey rocks rise into the sky like giant stalagmites.                                                                                                                                                                    

It was on these peaks that the first monks built their monasteries in Byzantine times. You will visit two of these monasteries and experience the unique atmosphere (please note dress code). The large collections of valuable Byzantine frescoes, icons and carvings are impressive.

You will have the opportunity to visit the town of Kalambaka at the foot of Meteora, followed by lunch (EXCL.).

On the way back to your hotels there will be a short coffee break
