Imbros gorge & Frangokastello beach from Agia Galini & Matala

The Imbros Gorge lies about 780 m above sea level and is immediately the neighbouring gorge of the Samaria. It stretches over a length of about 8 km and is easy to walk through in 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

The rock faces are adorned with a splendor of cypresses and shrubs.


The gorge winds in parts like a snake and at one point becomes so narrow that you can touch the walls with outstretched arms.


A drama also occurred here in 1867 during the Turkish occupation, with women and children dying as they fled from the Turks. Bathing stop in the village of Frangokastello.
