Description
Hiking tour through the Samaria gorge
Drive along the coast to Chania and from there south up into the White Mountains to the Omalos plateau. Here begins the descent into the 18 km long, 3 - 150 meters wide and up to 700 meters deep Samaria Gorge. For the hike you need about 4 to 6 hours. You walk through the longest gorge in Europe, whose wild beauty and scenic diversity will surely fascinate you. The narrowest part of the gorge is only about 3 meters wide and the rock walls rise 350 meters steeply at this point. This is rough, rocky, uneven track through the gorge and not suitable for the un-fit and for the clients with heart problems, blood pressure or pregnancy.
On route there are many stopping points where you can find toilets and drinking water. Finally, in the afternoon, you arrive in the fishing village of Agia Roumeli on the Libyan Sea, where you can relax in the taverns or bathe in the crystal-clear, turquoise sea after the hike. In the late afternoon you take a one-hour boat trip from Agia Roumeli to Chora Sfakion, past the mighty rocks of the south coast of Crete, where our bus awaits you for the journey home.

- A 16-km hike through the stunning Samaria Gorge, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
