Description
Samaria Gorge from Plakias
Samaria National Park is an important nature reserve, with a variety of natural features, including wild flowers, hundred-year-old trees, stone formations, and crystal clear water springs. It is Europe's longest gorge (16 km), and if you are lucky enough, you can see the Cretan's wild goat, Kri-Kri, as well
The hike starts at a height of 1200 m on the Omalos plateau. Don't miss the chance to take a photo at the most famous part of the gorge, the Iron Gates.
The hike takes about 4-5 hours, depending on your pace. Your tour guide is also passing through the gorge for your safety.
At the end of the gorge, in the village of Agia Roumeli, you will have time to eat and relax on the beach, before boarding the ferry to Chora Sfakion.
From there, you return to Plakias with the bus along the south coast.
