Description
Land Rover Safari Psiloritis Route with Professional Driver and Lunch from Matala & Agia Galini
Today this special route takes you to the foothills of Crete's highest mountain - Mount Psiloritis.
Your first stop will be at the mountain village of Vistagi. Here you have time to enjoy a coffee and stroll through the traditional village. Continue off-road to an incredible viewpoint at an altitude of 1000 meters to take your best photos. Continue further north to the famous monastery of Arkadi, which became a national sanctuary in honor of the Cretan resistance. The monastery played an important role in the resistance against the Turks (entrance fee of 3.00 euros is extra).
After this impressive visit, follow a stunning off-road route to the Potamos dam, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the north coast and the area of Rethymno. The next stop is a hidden treasure: the gorge of Aghios Antonios / Patsos. Take a short walk into this beautiful gorge and admire the small river that runs through it and the beautiful nature. The gorge is named after the small chapel of Saint Antonios built in the corner of a large cave.
After working up an appetite, continue to the village of Spili, famous for the beautiful Lion's Fountain, which has cool spring water all year round. A delicious traditional lunch awaits you in a cozy tavern and you have time to explore the beautiful village before you head back south to your hotel.
